Description

The Stoops and Stones virtual event explores some of the Peak Districts ancient byways is inspired by the guide stoops and stone circles that are scattered throughout the area.

TL:DR Summary

There’s a choice of two routes – the daytripper and weekender at around 100km and 100 miles respectively. As the names suggest the daytripper is designed to be done in a day whilst the weekender is a multi day bikepacking route.

Both are suitable for gravel bikes. For the cost of a couple of coffees you’ll get a copy of the routes and a patch for your bag. The patch will be shipped mid – April. You are free to ride the route at a time that’s convenient to you.

The longer version.

Since neolithic times travellers have crossed the Peak District. The area is littered with cairns, stone circles and guide stoops to help with navigation. The Stoops and Stone routes explore some of these ancient ways using some trackways that have been used for thousands of years.

There’s a choice of two routes. Both of which visit both the White and Dark Peak and start in the village of Baslow.

The routes are between 40-50% off road with the remainder on quieter country roads – some of which are more gnarmac than tarmac. As expected with the Peak District both routes are hilly but can be ridden on a gravel bike.
