The Dukeries is the name given to a corner of north Nottinghamshire because it had four ducal seats – Norfolk, Portland, Kingston and Newcastle. Situated in the middle of these seats is the Sherwood forest. Luckily for us the area also has some cracking trails to explore that are great fun on a gravel bike.
This route starts just over the border at the Cresswell Crags visitor centre. There’s a plenty of car parking there and a nice cafe. Most of the route 70%+ is off road and compared to the Peak District is relatively flat (I recce’d it on a single speed).
There are numerous attractions close to the route that are worth a side excursion and I’ve included them on the map. These include the Major Oak (Robin Hoods hideout) and the Sherwood Pines MTB trail centre – part of the route runs parallel with the blue trail if you fancy mixing it with our fatter tired friends.
